| Dato’ Anwar, currently a Professor at the Centre of Policy Research and International Studies (CENPris) at Universiti Sains Malaysia, is among Malaysia’s leading civil society figures whose contribution to the community in areas of consumer, environment and human rights issues has brought him both local and global recognition.
He is a recipient of the Right Livelihood Award, popular called the “Alternative Nobel Prize”, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), “Global 500” honour and, the Mother Earth News Hall of Fame. Dato’ Anwar is also chairperson of the new Malaysia n Interfaith Network (MIN) and Sustainable Penang Initiative.

Hamdan Abdul Majeed Executive Director

| Before joining Khazanah, Hamdan was founder member and director of Bumiwerks Capital Management where he was involved extensively in debt capital markets advisory specialising in structured finance, project finance and advisory. Prior to that he was an Investment Analyst with HSBC Securities covering Malaysian equity market. Hamdan has an interest in the development of civil society in Malaysia, political economy of Third World and Islam.
He is actively involved in activities and discussion in the area of economics & socio-political development, world affairs and religion. A native of Jalan Kampung Kolam, George Town, Hamdan is also actively involved in the Sustainable Penang Initiative and hopes to make his native city more liveable and sustainable. He holds a degree in Economics and Management from University of London.

Suryani Senja Alias Director, Think City

| Suryani Senja Alias joined Khazanah in March 2006 as Senior Vice-President in research and investment strategy. She spent her first 8 months on secondment to the policy unit of the Prime Minister’s office, researching public policies, writing briefs and speeches for the former Prime Minister of Malaysia. She is now in the Investments division of Khazanah.
Suryani practiced international law from 1997 to 2001 at the United Nations Compensation Commission in Geneva, Switzerland where she was assessing international law claims of damages in the oil and gas industry against Iraq in the 1990 Gulf War. From 2001- 2003, she practiced corporate law in London, UK in an American law firm specializing in cross-border energy transactions, Vinson & Elkins RLLP.
She earlier trained in London and Singapore as a telecoms equity analyst at Banque Paribas (now BNP), a French bank. She returned to Asia and became the Group General Counsel of AirAsia in 2005 and was heavily involved in the exportcredit backed financing of Airbus before she moved to Khazanah.
Suryani obtained her first law degree at the International Islamic University, Malaysia and a Masters in International Economic Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. She also certified as a Securities & Derivatives Representative in London, UK, and is a qualified English solicitor.
Apart from her professional work, Suryani is interested in public policy reform, development issues, and the promotion and preservation of art, culture and heritage. She is currently a fellow of Asia Society, a not-for profit organization in New York. She also sits on the board as a trustee of Yayasan Tuanku Nur Zahirah, a not-for profit foundation committed to revive and re-brand the Songket textile from Terengganu.

Ar. Laurence Loh Director

| Laurence Loh, currently the Deputy-President of Badan Warisan Malaysia (the Heritage of Malaysia Trust), an active member of the Penang Heritage Trust, and has served as a consultant/advisor to UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee, ICCROM, ICOMOS, the World Bank, the Hong Kong Antiquities and Monuments Board, the Urban Renewal Authority of Hong Kong, the Cultural Institute and Tourism Institute of Macao and the Singapore Tourism Board.
He was appointed by the World Heritage Committee as the ICOMOS site evaluator for the World Heritage Sites of Macau and Kaiping in China, the only Malaysian to have such an honour. He has been involved in 5 out of 6 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award conferred on Malaysian conservation projects between 2000 and 2008.
